Privacy, for hosted libraries
This is about libraries at name.indexlibrary.org, which we run for their owners during the pilot. A library you run on your own computer or server never reaches us.
What is stored
What you put in your library: records, photos, notes, collections, loans and who borrowed what, and the pictures your scans take while they are filed. If you paste an Anthropic API key, it is stored in your library so the librarian and cover reading can use it.
Who can see it
You, signed in. Visitors see only what you share, at the level you choose for each item or collection; anything private stays private. We run the server, so we can technically reach the files on it; we look only when you ask us to, or to keep the service running and safe.
Where it goes
Your library lives on a server in the United States. Backups are kept by the hosting company for that server and on a separate disk of the same server, and from time to time we copy them to drives we keep ourselves; your API key is left out of those copies. When you use the librarian or cover reading, the photos and text involved go to Anthropic with your key, under Anthropic's terms. Book details are looked up on Open Library and Google Books by title and ISBN. Nothing is sold, and there is no advertising or tracking on these pages.
Your library is yours
Settings, Download everything gives you every item, photo, note and collection in one file, any time, to keep or to open in the desktop app. Ask and we delete your library and remove it from the copies we keep; backups on the server itself age out within a few weeks. If the pilot ends, you will have at least thirty days' notice to download it.
